Ian Sampson was full of praise for his side after they crushed Accrington Stanley 4-0 at Sixfields on Tuesday night to move to 8th in the League 2 table.

"I thought we were excellent and I don't think Accrington can have any complaints with the scoreline," he said.

"Although we picked up good results in our three previous games we hadn't performed particularly well but tonight the players did everything we asked of them.

"We were excellent with the ball and we have emphasised to the players in training not to panic when they have got possession.

"I thought Kevin Thornton and Luke Guttridge were both excellent and I also have to give a lot of credit to Ryan Gilligan and Abdul Osman who played a more disciplined role which allowed Kevin and Luke to get forward.

"As I've said before Bayo is at times simply unplayable and Billy McKay always works his socks off. I was expecting him to tire late in the game but he was a real menace to their backline all evening and he thoroughly deserved his two goals.

"Everyone was called upon to do a job at some point during the game and they did that. Overall the team and the squad have been excellent and I'm delighted with every single one of them.

"We don't want to get carried away with this result but if we can keep this run going then we can then maybe start talking about the play-offs.

"A lot of teams have still got games in hand on us though and my immediate aim is still just to establish ourselves in the top half of the table.

"The players are working really hard, we haven't made wholesale changes in personnel over the last few months but we have introduced one or two new players and the team has gelled really well.

"We want as many people to come and support us as possible and if we can keep putting on performances like we did tonight then I'm sure the supporters who aren't coming at the moment will come back.

"I'm sure Aldershot will bring a few more fans on Friday than Accrington did tonight and if we could get a good crowd in for that game then that would be great."
