Ian Sampson praised the performance of his players in Tuesday's 2-0 win at Hereford.

"I was pleased with the performance and we showed a lot more professionalism to see the game out," he said.

"We were tight when we didn't have the ball, we worked on that in training on Monday and we're delighted to come away with the three points.

"We felt a bit unlucky to lose the game at Crewe but the players have shown great spirit tonight to get the win.

"The belief has always been there and we are getting results as well as playing some entertaining football which is very pleasing.

"The incident early on in the game where Hereford scored was quite bizarre but their player was definitely off-side. I think the fourth official and Craig Hinton said something to the referee and thankfully they came to the correct decision.

"Billy McKay and Bayo are working well as a partnership at the moment and we know that if we can get the ball into Bayo he will cause problems. He is definitely the best hold-up player in this league.

"Abdul Osman breaks the play up well, he keeps things simple and he is doing really well at the moment. I thought John Curtis came in and did a really good defensive job for the team as well.

"Liam Davis is playing at this level because he hasn't been consistent enough over his career but if he can get that consistency into his game then I'm sure he will be capable of playing at a higher level.

"I thought the players that came into the team did well and it's good to have that competition for places.

"Hopefully this is the start of another good run for us and we are aiming to get into the play-offs. That is a tough ask but all we can do is just try and have another good run and if we can do that then we will see where that takes us."
