Ian Sampson felt Friday's defeat to Aldershot Town turned on the early red card shown to Kevin Thornton.

"We were disappointed we didn't keep eleven men on the pitch because I think if we had done we would have had a very good chance of winning the game," he said.

"I'd like to see the sending off again on the DVD before passing judgement. I didn't have a very good view of the incident so I don't really want to comment on it at the moment.

"It was a double kick in the teeth for us conceding from the free-kick following the sending off but I thought we re-grouped well after that.

"We kept our passing game going and I think we definitely held our own in the first half.

"I've said too much on referees in the past so I will just write my report on him and that will go into the FA.

"At half-time we thought we were very much still in the game and I thought we started the second half brightly.

"We made a couple of changes with Stephen O'Flynn and Liam Davis coming on and credit to the players we kept trying to play the game in the right way.

"We gave it a go in the second half but we got done on the counter attack for their second goal and that made it very difficult for us. The third goal was then an unfortunate slip by the keeper.

"We tried to keep our passing game going but it is difficult when you are down to ten men. It was our third game in six days and I think you could see that there were a lot of tired legs out there.

"We've lost one game and we now just have to try and start another unbeaten run against Crewe next week.

"The players have been a real credit to the football club over the last two months and there is no reason why we can't start another run and go another 11 games unbeaten again."
