Ian Sampson praised the battling qualities of his side after Tuesday's 2-1 win at Darlington.

"We were made to work very hard by Darlington, they pushed us all the way and on the balance of play they maybe deserved to get a draw," he said.

"It was a tough night for the lads on a heavy pitch and I was really disappointed with our first half performance.

"We showed great character and spirit to turn things round in the second half though, we had to dig in at the end but we held on and I was delighted to get the three points.

"It was a great goal from Ryan Gilligan but he picked up a bit of a groin injury which is why we had to bring him off. Hopefully he will be okay but we will know more when he gets the injury assessed later in the week.

"The Bayo substitution was tactical and I just wanted to get Courtney Herbert on with his pace.

"Billy McKay has been working really hard for the team and he thoroughly deserved his goal. He had a couple of chances in the first half and on another night he could have maybe got a hat-trick but he will be delighted with his goal and hopefully it will lead to a few more.

"There is a real togetherness about the squad at the moment, results have obviously helped with that but the team spirit amongst the whole group has been excellent.

"We won't be bringing any more players in during the transfer window and at the moment I haven't had any more enquiries for any of my players.

"We are into the top half of the table now which was our aim but are next aim is to now try and stay there.

"We are in good form at the moment but we need to maintain that if we want to push on.

"Our fans were magnificent again and I would love to see a big crowd at Sixfields on Saturday. We want the fans to get right behind the team and I know that when they do it creates a great atmosphere.

"It'll be a tough game against Burton, they are a hard working team but after what happened at their place earlier in the season we have got a score to settle."
