Stuart Gray took plenty of positives from Tuesday's pre-season display against West Bromwich Albion.

"I thought it was a good performance," he said.

"West Brom scored against the run of play and we were punished for giving them a free kick within range of our goal. I thought we moved the ball well at times and although it is disappointing we haven't scored again we were up against very good defenders and that is not too much of a worry for me.

"There were encouraging signs and we looked more match fit today. The aim of the game is to get more game time into the team and we did that. I thought our back three coped with the pace and the options West Brom had. We were without a few players, Giles Coke rocked his ankle in training, Danny Jackman has a sore groin and Jason Crowe has a sore hip, and that is why he came off, but none of the problems are serious.

"We got into some good areas again and we had a better final ball in this game. Sometimes we needed to show more belief to get on the end of crosses and gamble with our movement, but that is all stuff we can work on. All in all, I was pleased with the workout.

"I will sit down and have a chat with Luke Guttridge and his agent. He has qualities but he is a little off the pace at the moment but we can work on that as well. We have released Matt Halliday but we will talk to Luke and see where we go.

"We have missed Bayo in pre-season. Leon Constantine and Colin Larkin will both benefit from having Bayo back and his ball retention will make a big difference to us. Bayo is back in training and progressing well. We have a couple of behind closed doors games arranged between now and Cheltenham to give him match time. We are building towards getting everyone fit and available for Cheltenham. We could have played Giles Coke and Jackman tonight but we don't want to rake risks as we don't have the biggest of squads."
