GRAY UNHAPPY AFTER HUISH PARK LOSS

Posted on: Wed 13 Feb 2008

Stuart Gray was far from happy after the Cobblers 1-0 defeat at Yeovil Town on Tuesday night.

"It was a pretty dour game overall and to concede such a late goal is obviously a real sickener for us," he said.

"I was very disappointed with our first half performance especially and I was just glad to get in at half-time still at 0-0.

"We did a bit better in the second half but our final pass let us down and maybe we just lacked that little bit of leadership as well at the end.

"We didn't play that well but we should have still come away with a 0-0 and we were obviously very disappointed with the late goal we conceded.

"I think we had looked pretty comfortable really, Yeovil hadn't really caused us too many problems and the only problems we had were self inflicted.

"We didn't do the basics right, the pitch was very slippery and broke up a bit but I'm not looking for excuses, we should have seen the game out.

"Mark Little and Brett Johnson both came off with injuries and that disrupted us a bit and I had to bring Giles Coke off about 15 minutes from the end because I thought he was tiring a bit and we didn't want him to pick up an injury as he tired.

"Mark crashed into the advertising hoardings and he has damaged a nerve in his knee which we will have to get scanned on Wednesday and Brett felt a bit of a pull on his hamstring so we brought him off as more of a precaution.

"Chris Doig was going to play for the reserves in a specially arranged game on Wednesday but he won't play in that now because his calf is still a bit tight and we don't want to take any risks with him.

"Our six match unbeaten run is over and we now need to start a new run against Gillingham on Saturday but we can only do that if we do the basic things right.

"We need to work hard and pass the ball better and if we do the things that we were doing well in our unbeaten run I'm sure we can get a result on Saturday.

"I can accept players having an off day but what I can't accept is players not giving one hundred per cent and if you don't put the effort in then you won't get the rewards."
