GRAY PRAISES PLAYERS CHARACTER

Posted on: Sat 29 Dec 2007

Stuart Gray praised the character of his players after their 2-1 success at Huddersfield Town.

"It was a fantastic performance and I'm delighted with the win," he said.

"I think we dominated the game but in the first half we didn't quite have that end product.

"It was difficult conditions for both teams but I knew I'd get a reaction from my players after what happened in the first half at Doncaster and full credit to them - I got that reaction.

"Jason Crowe was a revelation when we moved him into midfield and the timing of his goal was excellent.

"Poul Hubertz claimed the first goal like any good centre forward will do and I think to be fair to him he did just get the final touch ahead of Brett Johnson.

"I thought Poul was excellent in the second half and Brett put in a great performance, as to be fair everyone of the players did really.

"Brett Johnson and Liam Dolman were both offered six-month contracts in the summer and unfortunately for Brett injuries have meant his season has been a bit stop start.

"He's spent too much time on the treatment table but we've spoken to him about a short-term contract as his current deal expires at the end of the month. He's got to prove his fitness because I'm working to a budget and with the small squad we've got here I can't afford too many players to be out injured.

"The transfer window opens again on Tuesday and although I can't stop speculation I can say that no one has asked me about any of my players.

"We are looking to bring some players in on loan but as always we are waiting on answers from other clubs.

"Daniel Jones has come in and done very well for us and he will be a big loss if he goes back to Wolves, although I will still be putting a call in to Mick McCarthy to see if he will let him stay here a while longer. He's enjoyed his time here and he's just come into a fine run of form but if he does go back we've got Danny Jackman who can fill in there."
