FOOTBALL LEAGUE PODCAST - EPISODE 28

Posted on: Thu 18 Feb 2010

The Coca-Cola Football League Podcast is available to download now.

After Amy Fearn made history by becoming the first female to referee in the Football League, former Norwich City boss Bryan Gunn has given his backing to ladies in black.

Gunn, who joined host Mark Clemmit in the studio, said: "There is no reason why women officials shouldn't have a place in the game.

"They will have worked hard at lower levels to get an opportunity.

"If they do well and take their opportunity in the League why shouldn't they stay?"

Gunn recalls his own encounters with referees during his playing days.

He said: "I was sent off three times as a player, twice for shouting and swearing. I might not have sworn had it been a female ref!"

Millwall legend Neil Harris phones in to reveal that he may have a solution to England's left-back problem.

Harris said: "I was in the same team at school as Frank Lampard.

"I played centre midfield. He was at left back, as he was in the year below."

Plymouth Argyle boss Paul Mariner also joins Mark Clemmit on this week's show.
