FOOTBALL LEAGUE PODCAST - EPISODE 25

Posted on: Thu 28 Jan 2010

The Coca-Cola Football League Podcast is available to download now.

Derby County captain Robbie Savage speaks to host Mark Clemmit from his hotel room ahead of the Plymouth Argyle game and he reveals it is not all daytime TV on away days.

Instead, Derby away trips sound more like life at a retirement home.

Savage said: "We had a massage last night, then an optional swim at 10.30 this morning and a walk at 11.30.

"After that we have some food, then just really spend the day in bed relaxing until we get on the bus at six."

The skipper's room-mate on away trips is goalkeeper Stephen Bywater.

And Savage reveals that the big stopper - a martial arts fan - is not as hard as he likes to make out.

Savage said: "He is into his martial arts and says he wants to be a cage fighter when he is finished in football.

"But every away trip we go on the first thing he does is gets his eyebrows waxed.

"He went at quarter to nine this morning. I said to him he should have got his teeth done."

Lincoln City full-back Cian Hughton - son of Newcastle United boss Chris - phones in to talk about life at Sincil Bank.

Hughton Jnr left Tottenham Hotspur to seek regular football. He said: "You have to really want to make a career and not be scared to drop down a few levels to play.

"There are plenty of people with the talent but never make it happen. It is down to mentality."
