Northampton Town signed former Hereford United defender Dean Beckwith in June 2009. The 6ft 3in centre-half came up through the youth ranks at Gillingham but after loan spells at Dagenham & Redbridge and Margate he signed for Hereford in July 2005 having made 2 first-team appearances for the Kent club. In his first season at Edgar Street he played a major role in helping the Bulls regain their Football League status and he was a key member of Graham Turner's League Two promotion winning squad in 2007/08. Beckwith made a total of 152 appearances for Hereford in his four seasons at the club, scoring 5 goals.
