ADEBAYO AKINFENWA

Posted on: Wed 25 May 2011

Northampton Town re-signed striker Adebayo Akinfenwa on a 2 year contract in the summer of 2011 after he had previously enjoyed a successful 2 and a half year spell at Sixfields. Akinfenwa's career took off when he signed for Torquay United in July 2004. He scored 14 League One goals during the 2004/05 season but was unable to help the club avoid relegation to League Two. In July 2005, he moved to Swansea City after rejecting a new contract at Torquay, with Swansea paying £85,000 to secure his services. He scored the winning goal in the 2006 Football League Trophy final, in which Swansea beat Carlisle United 2-1. Akinfenwa also helped Swansea reach the League One promotion play-off final in his first season. At the end of the 2006/2007 season, he rejected a new contract with Swansea and after recovering from injury, joined Millwall, where he spent two months. After a successful end to the 2007/2008 season at Sixfields, he signed a new contract in the summer of 2008 before moving to Gillingham for the 2010/11 season.
