IAN HENDERSON
Northampton Town signed Ian Henderson, formerly of Norwich City, in the summer of 2007. Henderson was released by the Canaries at the end of the 2006/2007 season after his contract expired. He can play as a striker, or as a wide right midfielder.
He is a product of the youth academy at Carrow Road and was heralded as a very promising young player from an early age.
He made the Norwich first team squad for the first time in November 2001 when he was an unused substitute against Coventry City. Had he appeared in that game, he would have been the youngest player ever to feature for Norwich in a competitive match. His first team debut came in October 2002 against Coventry at Highfield Road and his first goal for the club arrived the following month in a 4-2 defeat at Wimbledon. The 2003-04 season saw Henderson win a First Division Championship medal as Norwich won promotion to the Premiership. He scored four goals that season - including a brace in a 3-1 victory over Millwall - and created a number of goals for other players. He signed a new contract with Norwich in the summer of 2004 but found it difficult to establish himself as a first team regular, making only a handful of appearances in the two subsequent seasons.
His Norwich career suffered a further set back after he was out of action for 8 weeks with ligament damage following a League Cup match at Rotherham United on 19 September 2006. After recovering, he joined Rotherham United on a loan deal until the end of last season, before being released by his parent club. Henderson, a former England Under 20 international, signed a 2 year contract at Sixfields.
