SHOEMAKERS CLAIM BRAGGING RIGHTS
The Shoemakers ended their season on a high after beating local rivals Posh.net at the Racecourse on Saturday 21st April.
An end to end game saw the home side take their chances and secure the win. The opening goal came from Richard Fletcher who tapped into an open net after John Marlow had beaten the keeper to the ball.
Marlow then helped himself to a double, firstly charging down a clearance from the Posh keeper, the ball ricocheted off the striker into the net. His second and the Shoemakers' third arrived on 35 minutes following a great through ball from Chris Marriott.
Posh pulled a goal back just before half time with a far post header from a corner, so the score at half time was 3-1 to the home side.
Despite chances aplenty in the second half, only one more goal followed. Martin Holmes made it 4-1 with a cute finish from a tight angle with ten minutes remaining.
Team: Ben Trasler, Ant Collett, Steve Marley, James Averill, Mark Kennedy, Ian Errington, Martin Holmes, Chris Marriott, Rob Ellam, Richard Fletcher, John Marlow, Sean Bellham
Thank Yous
A number of thank yous have to go out on behalf of the Cobblers Fans Team, the Shoemakers. Firstly massive thanks to everyone who has made the 20 games that we've played this season possible, Andy Trasler for refereeing the home games and of course the players for their commitment, especially when getting up early to travel to away games. Also, thank you to NTFC for their support and to the many fans who have turned up to watch us home and away, especially a good number of you that turned up to see us beat Peterborough. Also, thank you to Julie Kennedy for being our club photographer and to Gareth Willsher for putting up with my late submissions on my programme notes.
