WELL DONE CAMPION!

Posted on: Mon 15 Mar 2010

Back in February, Campion School U13 Girls football team qualified to reach the Regional Football League Finals which were held at the Colchester United FC Sport Trust Facility.

Campion U13's started the tournament off with a reserved approach, drawing their first round of games 0-0 against Norwich, Peterborough, and Watford's respective schools. After lunch, Campion come out with a different approach, with more belief and positive approach to the knock-out stages. Their first game was against Milton Keynes where they managed to score 3 times without reply to go through to the semi-finals against Ipswich.

Campion started the semi final and their explosive pace caught Ipswich napping in the first 10 minutes and Campion found themselves 2-0 up. Ipswich then grew into the game and Campion School had to battle hard to shut them out for the remainder of the match to claim a place in the final against Peterborough.

Now they were only one game away from winning the regional finals. This would mean progress to the national finals where the girls would have had a day out at Wembley.

The game started very tentitively with neither side wanting to give much away with the prize being so great. However, Peterborough managed to score with a long range shot that caught Campion's keeper out. After that Campion reacted very positively again and were camped in Peterborough's penalty box for the rest of the game but unfortunately they did not create many chances which was a credit to Peterborough's defence. Peterborough managed to hold out for the rest of the game making them winners of the regional competition.

Campion School U13 Girls put in a fantastic performance and deserved more. However, it was not meant to be this time. The girls did their teacher, parents, school and county proud with their efforts and were unlucky not to leave the tournament with the trophy.

Well done girls and we wish you the best of luck for next year.
