COBBLERS YOUNGSTER GETS PREMIER LEAGUE MOVE

Posted on: Thu 18 Jun 2009

Northampton Town's youth team product Courtney Cameron has signed for Aston Villa for an undisclosed fee.

The 16 year old left sided player, who has been with the Cobblers since an early age, is the latest Cobblers youth team product to make the jump to the Premier League, following on from Mark Randall and Anton Blackwood who in recent years have both been brought by Arsenal.

"Courtney has been at the club for a number of years and he has improved immeasurably in that time," said Head of Youth Geoff Harrop.

"He is an attacking player, very athletic and has an excellent attitude. He has worked hard, listened well and he, just like Mark and Anton before him, is proof that local players are in good hands here at Northampton Town.

"Young players here have the opportunity to progress through and play for our first team like Luke Chambers, Mark Bunn, Chris Dunn, Liam Dolman, Alex Dyer and Joe Benjamin have in recent years, or they could be spotted and be offered the chance to move to the Premier League, and we always pledge we will never stand in a player's way if that opportunity comes along and the deal is right for the club.

"We are developing a good reputation for developing players and not only are more and more of them filtering through to the first team, but Premier League clubs are monitoring the progress of a number of them before they even get that far and that is fantastic for the club and the individual players.

"We wish Courtney well with his future career and we are looking forward to following his progress."

This news comes after the Cobblers secured the services of Yas Hussain, another player who was attracting Premier League interest, on a long term contract.
