Burton Albion defender makes Northampton Town move
Northampton Town have signed Burton Albion defender Zander Diamond on loan for the rest of the season.
A 6ft 2in, 28 year old commanding presence at the heart of defence, Zander joined Burton on a two year deal in the summer of 2012 after his release from League 1 side Oldham Athletic. Zander graduated from the youth system at Scottish Premier League side Aberdeen after making his debut in 2003-04. His talents were recognised with 12 caps for the Scotland under-21 side as he established himself as a regular at Pittodrie where he made over 200 SPL appearances scoring 16 goals including 2 against Celtic in one game. Zander also gained experience of European football when the Dons qualified for the UEFA Cup in 2007-08 culminating in playing against Bayern Munich over two legs.
After nine years at Pittodrie Zander opted to further his career in England joining Oldham. After establishing himself as a regular Zander was unable to reach an agreement on a longer deal and moved to the Pirelli Stadium to become a key member of the defence and spending most of the 2012/13 season as skipper leading the Brewers in to the League 2 play-offs. In all he has made 57 appearances for Burton, scoring 6 times.
