Defender Zander Diamond has been passed fit for Saturday’s trip to Dagenham but the season might be ending too soon for left-back Joe Widdowson.
“Zander will be back,” confirmed Cobblers boss Chris Wilder.
“Joe has trained really hard but maybe the season has just run out for him.
“We toyed with the idea with starting with Ivan Toney against Portsmouth and when he came on he did well and played with no fear.
“Whether Ivan starts on Saturday or comes off the bench he has got a part to play this season.
“It’s not about individuals, it’s all about the group and it’s really important that we pick the right team and then go with the right formation and tactics to get the result.”
