CHRIS WILDER THRILLED WITH WIN OVER PORTSMOUTH

3 March 2015

Chris Wilder on Northampton Town v Portsmouth

Cobblers boss Chris Wilder reflecting on Tuesday night’s 1-0 win against Portsmouth.

“Portsmouth are a decent side on a good run and they pushed us all the way,” he said.

“They will probably feel they deserved something from the game and we were maybe a bit fortunate tonight but we’ll certainly take it.

“Credit to Portsmouth they really pushed us back in the last 20 minutes but we showed good defensive qualities that you need to show when you haven’t got the ball.

“I thought we were the better side in the first half and we always felt this was going to be a really tight game.

“We weren’t as good with the ball in the second half but we showed the defensive qualities that you need to show to get you over the line.

“Ricky Holmes was outstanding but they all played their part tonight. There will be a few tired legs I’m sure and now it’s all about recovery for Saturday so we can hopefully put in another front foot performance.

“Every game is a big game from now on in and we want to keep this run going and keep ourselves in there for as long as possible.”
