Wycombe Wanderers were the visitors to Sixfields on the final day of the 2014/15 season.
Brendon Moloney (knee) was ruled out meaning a move to right-back for Jason Taylor. Leading goalscorer Marc Richards, named as the club’s player of the year just before kick off, came back into the side to start up front along side Ivan Toney.
Lawson D’Ath had the Cobblers' first chance of the afternoon but his low shot on 15 minutes was saved by Matt Ingram. Veteran Wanderers striker Paul Hayes then went close to breaking the deadlock when his lobbed effort struck the crossbar.
Aaron Holloway fired Wycombe in front on 36 minutes and their lead was quickly doubled when Nico Yennaris scored after being played in by Hayes. Ingram then saved a header from Richards in first half stoppage time to preserve Wanderers two goal lead at the break.
The Cobblers started the second half brightly with Ingram saving well from D’Ath and Aaron Pierre blocking a goal bound effort from Joel Byrom.
Chris Hackett came on in the Cobblers first change, John-Joe O’Toole leaving the action.
Sam Wood’s own goal halved Town’s deficit midway through the second half with the goal coming from Ivan Toney’s cross, Wood injuring his goalkeeper Matt Ingram in the process.
Shwan Jalal made a good save to keep out an Alfie Mawson header from a Wycombe corner before Wanderers were forced into making a change, Alex Lynch replacing the injured Ingram.
Ryan Cresswell headed the Cobblers level on 85 minutes, the centre-half rising well to connect with Jason Taylor’s long throw.
Town pressed hard for a winner in the closing stages but it was Wycombe who stole the points with an Alfie Mawson goal 8 minutes into injury time.
