Rob Page took charge at Sixfields for the first time as the Cobblers took on Championship side QPR in a pre-season friendly.

On an evening that followed the hottest day of the year and with the temperature still above 30c, clear cut chances for either side proved hard to come by.

Gabriel Zakuani headed just wide from a Cobblers corner but it was the visitors who ended the first half strongly.

Ben Gladwin was the first QPR player denied by Adam Smith while Tjaronn Chery drew a finger-tip save from the Cobblers keeper just before the break.

Alex Revell replaced Marc Richards at half-time as QPR looked to pick up where they left off. A great tackle from Zander Diamond denied Rangers on 48 minutes and it was then the turn of Zakuani, his last-ditch challenge denied a through on goal Chery.

Revell just failed to connect with a terrific ball in from David Buchanan following some neat build up play involving Joel Byrom and academy graduate Shaun McWilliams.

QPR broke the deadlock on 80 minutes, substitute Nasser El-Kayati firing a shot into the bottom corner.

The Cobblers weren’t done though and the game finished 1-1, Alex Revell getting on the end of a long ball to smash in an equaliser.
