Latest summer recruit Harry Beautyman came straight into the Cobblers side for their final home pre-season friendly, with Wolves providing the opposition.

There were some encouraging signs for the home side in the opening exchanges as Rob Page’s side put together some neat passages of play. However it was the Town stopper who was first to be tested, David Cornell saving from Nathan Byrne.

Niall Ennis fired Wolves in front just after the quarter hour mark but parity was almost immediately restored when a terrific strike from John-Joe O’Toole whistled just wide, his initial effort having been blocked.

The Cobblers equalised on 37 minutes and it was the debutant Harry Beautyman who levelled the scores, the midfielder timing his run into the box perfectly to head home a looping cross.

Marc Richards and David Buchanan came on for the second half, replacing Alex Revell and Aaron Phillips.

A plethora of substitutions followed as the second half progressed with very little goal mouth action.

With 12 minutes to go a push on Lawson D’Ath lead to a Cobblers penalty and Marc Richards stepped up to score from the spot.

Richards penalty proved to be the winner on the night as the Cobblers countdown to the new season continued with a win.
