WILDER DELIGHTED WITH PROMOTION

9 April 2016

The Cobblers boss on Northampton Town 2 Bristol Rovers 2

A point against Bristol Rovers was enough to clinch promotion in front of a record-breaking crowd at Sixfields on Saturday.

“It’s a terrific day,” said a delighted Town boss Chris Wilder.

“Seasons like this don’t come around that often and we need to enjoy this time.

“The character of the players has been first class all season and they deserve this.

“The survival of the football club was the biggest result we had this season but this goes alongside it.

“The club has got a bright future ahead and hopefully we can move on again from this.

“It was a difficult game for us today, Bristol Rovers are an excellent side and I believe they will go up.

“At 2-0 they didn’t lie down and full credit to them."

Meanwhile, speaking about Marc Richards undergoing an operation on Monday and missing the rest of the season, the Cobblers boss added:

"It is a shame for us and for Marc but he came back for a couple of games and he wasn't himself.

"He needs an operation to sort things out and by having it now he will be fit for the start of pre-season.

"It is to his credit that he wants it done now, rather than waiting until the end of the season.

"He has played a huge part for us this season, and he will be deserving of all the recognition he receives along with the rest of the squad in the coming weeks."
