Northampton Town have signed Oxford United left back Tom Newey on loan until January 3rd 2015.

Scunthorpe United’s Player of the Year in 2012/13, left-back Tom joined Oxford in July 2013.

He started his career with Leeds United, and after loan spells with Cambridge United and Darlington he moved to Leyton Orient in July 2003. After another brief loan spell with Cambridge United, he signed for them in March 2005. In June 2005 he joined Grimsby, spending four years at Blundell Park and playing in the 2006 League 2 play-off final. He moved to Bury in August 2009 and Rotherham a year later, before his move to Scunthorpe in July 2012.

31 year old Newey has more than 450 senior appearances under his belt, including 14 for Oxford so far this season.

He does have permission to play in the FA Cup.
