NORTHAMPTON TOWN SIGN MARC RICHARDS

14 May 2014

Former striker returns to Sixfields

Northampton Town have signed Chesterfield striker Marc Richards on a 3 year contract after he rejected the offer of a new deal with the promoted Spireites.

The 31 year old Wolverhampton-born striker started his career with Blackburn Rovers from where he had loan spells at Crewe, Oldham, Halifax and Swansea. A switch to Sixfields in 2003 saw him score four goals in one game at Macclesfield as he played a major part in the run to the 2004 play offs. He then moved on to Barnsley and helped the Oakwell side to promotion to the Championship via the play-offs in his second season before he moved to Port Vale in 2007.

Richards was the top scorer for Vale for five seasons. He was also the top scorer for Chesterfield in 2012/13 with a dozen goals in an injury punctuated season and added a further 8 goals as Chesterfield were promoted in 2013/14.
