NORTHAMPTON TOWN SIGN LUKE PROSSER FROM SOUTHEND UNITED

28 January 2016

Cobblers add central defender to the squad

Northampton Town have signed Southend United defender Luke Prosser on loan until the end of the season.

The 25 year old, 6ft 3in left sided centre back began his career with Port Vale, making 36 first team appearances, and after loan spells with Salisbury and Kidderminster, he moved to Southend United in August 2010.

Luke has made more than 160 appearances for Southend, being a crucial member of the Blues team gaining promotion from League 2 in 2014/15.

He has made 16 appearances for Southend this season, thirteen of them in League 1, scoring twice.

"I'm really pleased to bring Luke in," said manager Chris Wilder.

"I have been an admirer of his for a while and this is another signing that will strengthen us at a key time in the season.

"As James Collins did, Luke also won promotion from this level last season, and that knowledge and experience can only help us.

"We have a really hectic schedule coming up, and to be able to add Luke's ability, knowhow and experience to the squad is a big boost and a huge help to the players who are already here and have done so well to get us to the position we are in.

"It is important to add quality, strength and depth to the squad in January when you are doing well, and I think we have done that in James Collins, Lee Martin and now Luke Prosser. All three are senior players with a really good pedigree and a track record of achieving and we will benefit from having them on board."
