LEGENDS RETURN TO SIXFIELDS FOR LEON BARWELL FOUNDATION MATCH

Cobblers legends to return to Sixfields to play in charity match

Cobblers legends to return to Sixfields to play in Leon Barwell Foundation Trophy match

A host of former Cobblers stars will once again take to the Sixfields pitch next month as they join former Saints and Steelbacks legends for a charity football match in aid of the Leon Barwell Foundation.

Former captains Ray Warburton and Ian Sampson, promotion-winning pair Jason Crowe and Martin Smith, Wembley heroes Neil Grayson and Sean Parrish, and the ever-popular Andy Holt will all dust off their boots for the Trophy match on Sunday 12th April (kick-off 3pm).

Former Cobblers midfielder Martin Smith is one of the players who can’t wait to get his boots back on. “I can’t wait for the game. It will be great to see some former colleagues, and great for the fans to see so many big names from the sports of Northamptonshire in action," he said.

They join a raft of former Northampton Saints and Northamptonshire County Cricket Club aces in the line-up, including Matt Dawson, Nick Beal, Allan Lamb and Mal Loye, with further players set to be announced.

It is hoped the game will raise thousands for the Foundation, which has been set up by the Barwell family in memory of former Saints Chairman Leon, who died following a battle with cancer in June 2013, aged 46.

In the months leading up to his passing, Leon was able to enjoy a skiing trip with his family as well as attend the Aviva Premiership Final between his beloved Saints and Leicester Tigers, and the charity’s aim is to help families affected by cancer by providing financial support to enjoy similar, memorable events together.

Tickets for the match can be purchased in person from our ticket office and online

Advanced tickets are priced just £10 for adults and £4 for concessions, with carers and children aged seven and under admitted free of charge.
