Former Bradford keeper to sign from July 1st
The Cobblers have signed Bradford City goalkeeper Matt Duke on a 2 year contract with effect from July 1st.
The Sheffield born 36 year old Duke enjoyed a successful loan spell at Sixfields in 2011/12, playing a big part in helping Northampton Town pull away from the foot of League 2.
He was also a key figure in Bradford's run to Capital One Cup final in 2012/13, turning in superb performances in front of millions of TV viewers in the wins over Arsenal and Aston Villa.
Duke played in the Premier League in a 7 year stay at Hull City earlier in his career before a switch to Bradford City in August 2011. In two years at Bradford he played 52 games as he battled with Jon McLaughlin for the keeping berth.
"Matt was always our number one keeping target this summer and I am delighted we have got him," said Cobblers boss Aidy Boothroyd.
"I am really pleased that in each of the last two seasons we have got our top goalkeeping targets. Matt needs little introduction really having done so fantastically well for us on loan and then being one of the stars of Bradford's Capital One Cup run last season.
"We have done well to get Matt. We wanted an experienced keeper and Matt fits the bill perfectly. We know he will settle in quickly as he knows the club and he knows the staff and I think he will be another excellent addition to the squad.
“I am really looking forward to working with him again. He is a well respected, first class professional and I am delighted he is joining us.”
