NORTHAMPTON TOWN SIGN DOMINIC CALVERT-LEWIN ON LOAN

7 August 2015

Sheffield United striker signs until the January transfer window

Northampton Town have signed Sheffield United striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin on loan until the January transfer window.

The 18-year old, who can also play in midfield, came up through the Blades academy, making his first team debut at the end of last season having signed a new three-year contract keeping him at Bramall Lane until June 2018.

He also enjoyed a very successful loan spell at Stalybridge Celtic last season, scoring 6 goals in 5 starts, plus 4 assists.

“With Ivan gone we were obviously looking to bring in another striker and we’re delighted to have signed Dominic,” said boss Chris Wilder.

“He’s very highly rated at Sheffield United, he’s a great kid and hopefully he can add to what we’ve already got at the top of the pitch.

“We always look to unearth players that maybe a lot of people haven’t heard about and that’s what we’ve done with Dominic.

“We like what we’ve seen of him so far, he’s enthusiastic and he’s got the ability.

“We’re not a fan of short term loans but we’ve got Dominic until January and Sheffield United know he will get well looked after.

“He’s still young but we feel we can help him develop and he will definitely be involved and it’s important that we have plenty of competition all over the pitch.”

Calvert-Lewin has been given permission to play in the Capital One Cup and will wear squad number 20 during his time at Sixfields.

Sheffield United will have a 24-hour recall on the player after the first 28 days of his loan.
