Cobblers fans meets players after suffering theft this week

Northampton Town Football Club stepped in on Saturday to help Cobblers supporter Derry Felton after his laptop and specially-tailored computer equipment were stolen in a burglary at his Northampton home last week.

Derry has been paralysed from the neck down since he was two years old and uses a headset that allows him to use his laptop without typing or clicking.

But that, along with the laptop itself, another computer, portable hard drives, three games consoles and his carer’s car keys were all taken during a theft last week.

To try and help cheer Derry up, the club arranged for Derry to have a stadium tour and meet Chris Wilder and the squad before the York City game on Saturday.

The Special Effect charity raised money for some equipment for Derry three years ago, and it is a charity that Cobblers Chairman Kelvin Thomas is a Vice President of.

“When I saw what had happened with Derry I immediately thought of Special Effect," he said.

"Special Effect is a charity that I am a Vice President of and is a wonderful charity that helps people just like Derry enjoy and experience computer games.  I found out that they have helped him before and they have agreed to contact him next week and help him in anyway they can again.

“I spoke to Mrs. Felton, Derry’s mum, on Saturday morning and invited Derry in to meet the players before the game against York and hopefully we can go some way to help him through this.

“Once again the way our fans have rallied round one of our own that has had problems is amazing and it shows the type of support we have here at Northampton Town, and we are so pleased to be part of that and able to help.”

A JustGiving page has been set up to raise money to try and replace the stolen items, to support this please visit https://crowdfunding.justgiving.com/adam-johnson while for more details on Special Effect please visit: http://www.specialeffect.org.uk/
