DEADLINE DAY 2016: DANNY ROSE SIGNS FOR NORTHAMPTON TOWN

1 February 2016

Free agent midfielder signs on at Sixfields

Northampton Town have signed midfielder Danny Rose on a contract until the end of the season after he left Oxford United.

The 27 year old started his career at Manchester United where he captained the reserve side. He joined Oxford, initially on loan, in January 2007 where he impressed enough to be offered a permanent contract at the end of that season.

He signed for Newport County in the summer of 2008, helping them to the Conference South title where his displays caught the attention of Fleetwood Town whom he joined for an undisclosed fee in January 2012, helping them to the Conference title and promotion into the Football League for the first time.

In October 2012 Danny joined Aldershot before returning to Oxford in 2014 where he made 97 appearances, scoring eight goals.

"Even though Danny is a player I know well, he wasn’t really on our radar when we started the transfer window as we never thought Oxford would allow him to come to us, but when he came to a agreement with Oxford to become a free agent it opened the door for us," said manager Chris Wilder.

"He is a very good player who has been involved in promotion winning sides so he knows what it takes and we know he will fit in well here. He also knows what we are about and what we are doing now at Northampton Town, so once the move became a possibility Danny was keen to come.

"This month has been about adding players to the team and squad who can make us stronger for the final 19 games.  It has been about adding experienced players who give us depth, options, quality and competition for places. Danny does this for us in central midfield plus he covers a few other positions too, so I am pleasantly surprised we have been able to add him.

“I think it’s been a good January for us, because as well as the additions we have been able to keep hold of all of the players we wanted to and I would like to thank the Chairman for the support. I am pleased to welcome Danny and we are looking forward to getting back in action against York City at Sixfields on Saturday in front of a big crowd."
