NORTHAMPTON TOWN SIGN RYAN CRESSWELL FOR UNDISCLOSED FEE

Cobblers bring in Fleetwood defender

Northampton Town have signed Fleetwood Town central defender Ryan Cresswell for an undisclosed fee.

The 26 year old made his senior debut for Halifax Town when he was on loan from Sheffield United in the 2006/07 campaign.

Cresswell followed his brief spell at Halifax up with loan periods at Rotherham, Morecambe and Macclesfield before a permanent deal was struck between Sheffield United and Bury for the defender to move to Gigg Lane on a permanent contract in 2008.

In 2010, Cresswell signed for Rotherham United, making over 30 appearances for the Millers over a two year period. He then signed for Southend, helping them to the Johnstone's Paint Trophy final and was selected in the PFA League 2 Team of the Year in 2012/13.

He signed for Fleetwood in July 2013 for an undisclosed fee, making 27 appearances for the Cod Army.

Cresswell, who has scored 20 senior goals in just over 220 appearances, has signed a 3 year contract at Sixfields.

"I am delighted to sign Ryan," said Cobblers boss Chris Wilder.

"Alan Knill and I have worked with Ryan before. He is a quality defender at this level and a top, top character.

"He is a winner, he has been involved with a lot of teams at the top of this league in his career and he is another player who can help take this club forward.

"He is an excellent age and we have done some fantastic business today."
