CHAIRMAN - 'WE WILL TAKE OUR TIME'

5 January 2014

David Cardoza talks about the process to appoint a new manager

Chairman David Cardoza has said the Board of Directors will not rush any decision over appointing the next manager of Northampton Town and that the performances of the team under caretaker manager Andy King has given them time to assess their options.

The Chairman also said that while there is a lot of interest, the position has not been offered to any candidate.

"Andy King is doing a terrific job steadying the ship," he said in a Cobblers Player interview on Sunday.

"The spirit in the last 3 away games has really pleased me. I expected Andy would do well, and with Tim and the other staff I am reasonably relaxed with the managerial situation.

"They have brought us time to decide on what to do and we will use that time to assess thoroughly the options open to us. Appointing the next manager is a crucial decision, we have undertaken a lot of interviews and talked to a lot of people to gain their opinion.

"It is an ongoing process but while Andy and the players are getting results it is a case of not rocking the boat. If the players want the situation to carry on they need to keep giving 100% and to keep winning games.

"We will support Andy and I expect some players to come in and a player or two may depart next week as we prepare for the York City game.

"We need to get this right, so let us take our time. With the team performing as they are, we have that time.

"I am sorry we are in this position again, but we are where we are. The redevelopment is great but the only thing that matters in the next few months is retaining our Football League status."
