Izale McLeod, Clive Platt and Stuart Dallas all came back into the side with the fit again Roy O'Donovan named on the bench. Bury meanwhile included two ex-Cobblers players in their starting eleven, Shaun Harrad and Nathan Cameron.

The Cobblers first chance in front of goal came on the quarter hour, McLeod doing well to bring the ball down before laying it off to Ian Morris but his shot was deflected behind.

Midway through the first half Bury were awarded a penalty and Danny Nardiello stepped up to give the Shakers the lead from the spot.

It was 1-1 on 29 minutes, a whipped Chris Hackett free-kick finding the back of the net via a flicked header from Bury defender Dean Howell.

Platt then headed over from a Hackett corner while at the other end Jones just failed to get on the end of a dangerous looking cross from Nardiello. Nardiello was then denied again on 44 minutes, this time by a terrific reaction save from Duke.

In first half stoppage time the Cobblers were awarded a penalty after a foul by William Edjenguele on McLeod. However Chris Hackett blasted his spot-kick over and the teams left the field at half-time with the score level at 1-1.

After a bright start to the second half from both sides Duke made another good save to keep out a shot from Nardiello.

Brian Jensen did well to smother a shot from McLeod on 67 minutes with the rain now falling heavily.

With 78 minutes on the clock Roy O'Donovan returned to action following a lengthy injury lay-off, the Irishman replacing McLeod in attack.

Doumbe went agonisingly close to winning the game for the Cobblers on 89 minutes but his shot went a yard wide. O'Donovan then appeared to be felled in the penalty area deep into stoppage time but the referee said no penalty and the points were shared.
