Northampton Town travelled to Burgess Hill Town for their final game of the two match training camp in Sussex.

The home side won the Ryman South League last season by only losing 3 games and recording 105 goals and 109 points but on a warm summer afternoon, it was the Cobblers who did most of the first half pressing.

Nicky Adams shot over the bar on 8 minutes, while an Alfie Potter cross was headed over by Ivan Toney three minutes later.

On 28 minutes Zander Diamond headed wide from an Adams free kick while the former Bury man was later close twice in the space of three minutes, seeing a shot blocked on 35 and then having an angled drive tipped over on 38.

The Cobblers should have been ahead on the hour mark and it was the unlikely figure of Marc Richards who couldn’t make the most of a good opportunity. Alfie Potter found the Cobblers skipper in space with a deep cross but Richards fired wide from close range.

Adam Smith went down low at his near post to save a 70th minute effort, before Sam Hoskins burst through only to be denied by a finger tip save at the other end.

John-Joe O’Toole was wide with a powerful header on 72 minutes, and as the Cobblers continued to press, Danny Clifton’s 25 yard drive landed on the roof of the net.

Chris Wilder’s side did plenty of pressing and dominated possession but ended their week in Sussex with a goalless draw.
