BRENDAN MOLONEY TO UNDERGO MINOR KNEE OPERATION

4 May 2016

Right back to miss Portsmouth trip to be recovered for pre-season

Defender Brendan Moloney will miss the final game of the season, away at Portsmouth on Saturday.

Moloney will undergo minor surgery on his knee to ensure he is full fit for pre-season, meaning Josh Lelan will continue at right back at Fratton Park.

"Brendan will have surgery this week to make sure he is right for pre-season," said manager Chris Wilder.

"The advantage of us having won the title a few weeks ago means we can get any operations that are needed done now, so that the players have recovered in time to start pre-season.

"Marc Richards is well on the road to recovery after having surgery a few weeks ago and now we will get a minor procedure done for Brendan so he too will be ready.

"That isn't to say we are easing off, the way we played against Luton showed that, but it makes sense to get any operations that are needed done now.

“We have spoken to the medical staff and we have talked to the players, and made it clear that anybody who needs operations that they have to have them."

Rod McDonald, who suffered a calf/Achilles strain in training last week, while Joel Byrom is struggling with a stiff back and neither may be risked at the weekend.
