A sunny St James Park was the venue for the Cobblers third pre-season friendly as Rob Page’s side travelled to Brackley Town. Page named a strong starting eleven while former Cobblers Dean Snedker, Luke Graham and David Moyo featured for the home side.
Alex Gudger headed Brackley in front on 8 minutes but the Cobblers weren’t behind for long, Marc Richards scored the equaliser, smashing the ball home from close range after Alex Revell did well to cut back a deep cross from Aaron Phillips.
David Moyo restored Brackley’s lead midway through the first half, racing onto a loose ball before rounding Adam Smith and slotting home.
Zander Diamond replaced Rod McDonald in what looked like a precautionary substitution, McDonald having possibly picked up a minor strain.
The Cobblers were once again back on level terms before half-time, Phillips pin-point right-wing cross headed in at the far post by Alex Revell.
The topsy-turvy nature of the game continued at the start of the second half when Brackley re-took the lead for a third time, Matt Lowe converting Jack Bowen’s knock down.
As Rob Page’s side looked for a quick response to again falling behind, Ryan Cresswell headed against the post while Alex Revell had an effort cleared off the line.
The Cobblers were really piling on the pressure but it was Brackley who added to their lead when David Moyo turned in a cross at the back post.
With a number of substitutions made the game fizzled out a little bit in the last twenty minutes and there were no more goals.
