Northampton Town boss Aidy Boothroyd is pleased to have added some steel to the Cobblers midfield following the arrival of Ricky Ravenhill on a month’s loan from Bradford City.

“The bottom line is I thought it was necessary to bring in a bit more steel and experience to the midfield,” he said.

“Ricky is an organiser and he’s got a lot of steel about him. He’s got four promotions to his name, he’s a winner and I just think we need another voice on the pitch.

“He will do what is required to win games rather than be a little bit naive like perhaps we have been.

“The core of the team is still in the treatment room at the moment and I just felt it was time to change things.

“It does take time for a team to settle but I didn’t think the team was as affective as it should be and we certainly haven’t picked up as many points as we should have done.

“The facts are we are bottom of the league, we are conceding far too many goals late on in games and quite frankly I’ve had enough of it just as much as everybody else has.

“Changes needed to be made and luckily I’ve got a Chairman who is very supportive towards that.

“We will adapt the way that we play and I want to get two up front again, for certain games anyway and in Jacob Blyth and Luke Norris we have got two very strong and willing runners who are both going to score goals.

“I waited for Jacob, I just thought he did so well and potentially he has got so much more to come.

“I think Jacob and Luke together will be very difficult opponents for anybody and there are goals in there too.

“I’m quite happy with what I’ve got now, we were right for a change and we just needed a little bit more steel, ability and mobility in midfield and a little bit more of a threat up front.

“We’ve got some good players at the club but where we are right now requires a certain type of player and a certain type of person and I think the balance that we’ve got is right now.”
