BOOTHROYD HAPPY WITH LATEST WIN

5 January 2013

The views of the Cobblers boss

Cobblers boss Aidy Boothroyd was a happy man after the 3-1 win against Fleetwood Town.

“It was a very good team performance today and we were well worth our win,” he said.

“I’m really pleased because today was a real benchmark for us to see how far we’ve come.

“We were very professional, we played the pitch and the conditions really well and in the end we were just too strong for Fleetwood.

“We were a team of men today and the only disappointing thing was that we didn’t keep a clean sheet.

“Chris Hackett is in the form of his career and whenever he gets the ball the opposition don’t know how to contain him.

“I’m pleased for Jake Robinson to get his two goals and I was pleased for Clive Platt to get his goal as well.

“Clive might be getting on in years but his touch in and around the box is terrific. He takes a lot of pressure off everybody else in the team and he and Bayo up front are a real handful.

“We’ve always got goals in us and I thought the spine of the team was excellent today.

“We’re doing well at the moment but we need to keep being professional if we want to maintain it.

“We’ve come a long way in a short space of time and now we want to build on that.

“Our away form definitely needs to improve and we need to maintain our form at home.

“Our club is on the up but we’re not going to get carried away and all we are looking at is trying to win the next game."

Boothroyd also confirmed that midfielder Emyr Huws is to return to Manchester City after completing his loan spell at Sixfields.

“Emyr will go back to Man City, I’ve really enjoyed working with him, he’s a terrific young man and he’s a terrific player.

“Manchester City are a terrific football club and I hope that they think Emyr goes back there a better player.

"I have also told Anthony Charles that he is free to find a new club, and he won't be offered a new contract here. He has done well for us but he needs to play more regularly than he will here."
