Cobblers boss not getting distracted by upcoming tie

Northampton Town manager Rob Page has said while the club are delighted to have been paired with Manchester United in the EFL Cup third round draw, that will now move to the back of their minds as they focus their full attention on Saturday's game at Coventry City.

“We wanted a big club and they don’t come much bigger than Manchester United,” he said.

“To have them at home is fantastic for the supporters and credit to the players as well because they deserve it.

“It’s a great fixture for us and it’s a challenge the players will look forward to.

"The message to the players is that we are not just in this competition to make up the numbers, we’ve earned the right to be in the third round and now we have to go and give a good account of ourselves.

“I’ve got great memories of playing in the cup for Sheffield United and we are going to give it absolutely everything to try and get more moments like Tuesday night.

“Everybody is talking about it and rightly so. This club is on the up and it’s not just great for the club it’s great for the town as well.

“We will be massive underdogs but you never know in cup competitions, anything can happen.

“But, the league is our priority right now and there are a lot of points to be gained between now and Manchester United so we will forget about that for now and deal with it when it comes along in a few weeks.”
