EFL Youth Alliance Merit Division action
Northampton Town's under 18s welcomed Portsmouth to Moulton College on Saturday for their latest EFL Youth Alliance Merit Division fixture.
Lewis Irwin scored a hat-trick and Josh McCammon was also on target as the Cobblers led 4-0 at the start of the second half. Portsmouth then mounted a comeback but the Cobblers claimed the points with a 4-3 victory.
“It was a really pleasing first hour, we controlled the game and we deserved our four goal lead,” said Professional Development Phase Coach Mark Lyons.
“I’m disappointed we conceded three goals and let Portsmouth back into it but it’s a good win.
“Jarvis Wilson and Ethan Lamptey both did really well on their comeback from injury and it was good to have the pair of them back out on the pitch again.”
