ROB PAGE RARING TO GO AS PRE-SEASON GETS UNDER WAY

30 June 2016

Cobblers boss looking forward to a tough five weeks

Northampton Town manager Rob Page is delighted that pre-season is getting underway.

"The players will undergo a day of testing on Thursday and we will get down to work on Friday," he said.

"Pre-season has come around quickly and from a managerial point of view we have been busy adding staff and players to the club and we can't wait to meet the lads as a group.

"We didn't feel we needed to make wholesale changes this summer, this is a club on the up and we have made a few changes to try and improve things even further. We will make further tweaks, some will be noticed and some won't be and we have done everything we wanted to before we got to July 1st.

"The training ground partnership with Moulton College will make a big difference, It helps to attract players here and it is a fantastic facility. The drainage up there will be improved and it is a great base to work from.

"Thursday is a testing day for the boys, then they will do some work on an athletics track on Friday morning and then we will work hard up at Moulton College on Friday afternoon.

"I expect the sessions will be competitive. You need that edge, it is dog eat dog, we have improved the squad and the players know they can make an impression from the first minute to the last. Whether it be a football session, a core session or a running session the players can impress and I expect them to do so.

"The players will come back in good shape, I have no doubt about that. They will want to make a good impression on me and the staff. They will all get some game time in pre-season, we will manage things throughout these five weeks so that we are in the best shape possible for the Fleetwood game.

"We might field two separate teams in the first few pre-season games and I know the boys will be fighting fit and ready to go.

"Football is changing, players are getting fitter and quicker and we will need to be prepared for that and I know the players be ready for a tough pre-season."
