PERFORMANCE COACH JOHN HARBIN IS READY TO WORK THE SQUAD

1 July 2016

Experienced coach ready to prepare players for life in League 1

Northampton Town's new Performance Coach John Harbin is looking forward to using his experience in a number of sports to help the Northampton Town.

The experienced Englishman emigrated to Australia when he was a youngster and who will be preparing the Cobblers players for their League One campaign. He has been speaking about the knowledge he has built up and how he can help the players.

"My background in sport is in boxing and Rugby League but I have been in football since 2002," he said.

"I started with Iain Dowie at Oldham Athletic and have since been to Crystal Palace, Coventry City, Charlton Athletic, Swansea City and Plymouth Argyle.

"My work is as a Performance Coach. We have to put the right things in place to ensure fitness work is done, rehab work is done, we will test the lads a lot and each day will be different to make sure they are as physically and as mentally prepared as they can be. I am a big fan of swimming and water work, so the facilities at Moulton are excellent and will be a big help with that.

"A big part of my job is helping the players with belief and confidence. I do support them on the mental side of the game and that is very important. The players here aren't silly, even before they met me they will have known what I am like. I believe in honesty, integrity and working together, and while we wear the same badge we are all in it together. I believe in the philosophy of the All Blacks rugby team, and I believe in the person first and the player second.

"I will work the players hard but I think they will understand that I am here to help them achieve the best results we possibly can."
