Ricky Ravenhill replaced Ryan Watson (cruciate ligament) in the only change to the Cobblers starting eleven with Marc Richards (hamstring) and Kelvin Langmead (Achilles) named on the bench. 45-year old goalkeeper Barry Richardson, who had a spell with Northampton in the early 1990s, was among the Wycombe substitutes.

Wycombe started brightly without posing any real threat, the Cobblers defence looking comfortable. Chances at either end were at a premium in the opening 25 minutes before Matt Ingram was forced into making a save, the Wycombe stopper keeping out a looping header from Kaid Mohamed.

Lawson D’Ath then had a good chance to put the Cobblers ahead just before the half hour mark but put his header over the bar following a pin-point Chris Hackett cross.

Ryan Cresswell put the Cobblers in front soon after, rising highest to head home from a Joel Byrom free-kick.

8 minutes into the second half Chris Wilder made a change, Darren Carter replacing Lawson D’Ath. Town’s second change then came midway through the second half with Kaid Mohamed making way for leading goalscorer Marc Richards.

With the home side’s attacking threat continuing to be nullified, a Paul Hayes header apart, the Cobblers lead was still looking fairly comfortable as the game entered the final 15 minutes.

Wycombe thought they had an equaliser on 80 minutes only to be denied by an off-side flag, Jordan Archer having initially made a terrific save to tip the ball on to the crossbar.

The Cobblers were reduced to ten men for the final few minutes, Gregor Robertson sent off after picking up a second booking for supposed time wasting, when the Cobblers were making a substitution.

Wycombe then scored six minutes into stoppage time, Aaron Holloway heading in from a corner.
