Northampton Town travelled to York City for their first away league game of the 2014/15 season. Darren Carter, who missed the win at Wolves with a hamstring injury, and Marc Richards both came back into the side in place of Ian Morris and Kaid Mohamed.

Ivan Toney had an early chance to put the Cobblers in front but the young striker dragged his shot just wide after being played in by Carter. Lindon Meikle then had an opportunity for the home side, his effort was saved by Matt Duke.

Duke tipped over a shot from Michael Coulson on 17 minutes after Lee Collins picked up a yellow card for holding back Jake Hyde. Marvin McCoy prevented Town from taking the lead just before the half hour mark, clearing the ball off the goalline from Ivan Toney with John-Joe O’Toole ready to pounce.

John McCombe, York’s last man in defence, looked to have brought down Toney on 33 minutes but the referee saw it differently and booked Toney for simulation.

Some good defending by York denied Marc Richards a headed opportunity on 54 minutes following a cross in from Evan Horwood.

York midfielder Coulson struck the woodwork on 61 minutes before the Cobblers were forced into making a change, Ian Morris coming on for Carter.

The deadlock was broken midway through the second half, Anthony Straker scoring direct from a corner to give York the lead.

Lawson D’Ath replaced Ricky Ravenhill as Chris Wilder made his final change with just over a quarter of an hour to go.

Wes Fletcher’s flick went close to doubling York’s lead on 81 minutes, Coulson’s cross setting up the chance for the substitute.

The Cobblers equalised in the 90th minute, Marc Richards with a terrific free-kick from the edge of the area that gave Jason Mooney in the York goal no chance.

Richards' screamer was enough to earn the Cobblers a point as Chris Wilder’s side continued their unbeaten start to the season.
