The Cobblers took the lead with just 26 seconds played, Luke Norris with a terrific strike from distance to beat Josh Lillis.

Aidy Boothroyd was forced into making a change on 14 minutes after Kevin Amankwaah picked up an injury, Lee Collins coming on at right-back.

Rochdale equalised on 26 minutes, ex-Cobblers striker Ian Henderson scoring from an acute angle after the Town defence struggled to clear the initial cross from Michael Rose.

Stuart Dallas put the Cobblers back in front on 39 minutes, the on-loan Brentford winger capitalising on some good work from Darren Carter on the counter-attack before cutting inside and unleashing a terrific low shot into the corner of the Dale net.

Andrew Tutte saw a shot palmed over by Matt Duke at the start of the second half as Rochdale looked to wrestle back the initiative.

Ivan Toney replaced Luke Norris in the Cobblers second change before Stuart Dallas fired a shot just wide following a cross from Hackett.

With 81 minutes on the clock, Ian Henderson's goalbound effort was well blocked at close range by Mathias Doumbe.

Rochdale equalised for a second time on 87 minutes, Michael Rose with a curled free-kick.

The home side then won it in stoppage time, Duke just failing to keep out George Donnelly's strike.
