Stuart Dallas and Ben Tozer both came into the side, replacing Chris Hackett (groin) and Joe Widdowson (hamstring).

After a bright start from the Cobblers, Gary Deegan played in Kevin Amankwaah who shot just wide. In Oxford's first attempt on goal, Matt Duke saved comfortably from Andrew Whing.

Darren Carter went close to breaking the deadlock on the half hour but his rasping shot from 25-yards went agonisingly wide of the U's goal, hitting the stanchion.

Oxford took the lead in the final minute of the first half, James Constable with a cool finish following a good flick on from Dave Kitson.

The U's were then awarded a penalty, Ben Tozer penalised for allegedly bringing down Constable. Danny Rose scored from the spot to make it 2-0.

Aidy Boothroyd made a change at half-time with Ivan Toney coming on for Lee Collins.

A good run and cross from Dallas set up Toney but his flick was cleared by Michael Raynes. From the following corner, Toney was then denied by Ryan Clarke.

JJ Hooper replaced Roy O'Donovan in the Cobblers second change. Danny Emerton then came on for Ian Morris.

With the game now having become very fragmented, Amankwaah blocked a shot from Constable. Amankwaah headed just wide in injury time as Oxford closed the game out to claim a 2-0 victory.
