The Cobblers were forced into making a number of changes for their third game in six days with David Artell, Luke Guttridge, Ben Harding, Chris Hackett and Clive Platt all unavailable due to injury.


Henoc Mukendi, Ishmel Demontagnac and Louis Moult made their first starts for the club in a competitive fixture while youth teamer Claudio Dias was named on the bench.


Jake Robinson put the Cobblers in front on 11 minutes with a terrific volley from 25-yards.


Ben Tozer saw a free-kick deflected behind while Louis Moult fired wide after being set up by Adebayo Akinfenwa. Charlie MacDonald then shot over for Dons.


Lee Nicholls made a good save to deny Dean Bowditch in first-half stoppage time.


Eleven minutes into the second half and the Dons made a change with Luke Chadwick replacing Jimmy Bullard.


Stephen Gleeson saw a shot saved by Nicholls as the game neared the midway point of the second half.


Akinfenwa headed wide from a Ben Tozer long throw before the Dons made a double substitution.


The Cobblers responded with a change of their own, Lewis Wilson coming on for Ishmel Demontagnac, Paul Turnbull then replaced goalscorer Jake Robinson.


Nicholls saved comfortably from Bowditch while Wilson shot over on the break. Alex Nicholls then replaced Louis Moult in the Cobblers final change.


David Martin parried away a shot from Henoc Mukendi while at the other end Dons substitute Jabo Ibehre couldn’t direct his shot on target when well-placed in front of goal.


Five minutes of stoppage time were signalled but the Cobblers saw that out to book their place in the second round.
