The Cobblers were without Joe Widdowson (hamstring) and Ishmel Demontagnac (suspended) for the long trip to Torquay. Anthony Charles came in at left-back with Clive Platt replacing Demontagnac.

With some heavy rain prior to kick off the pitch at Plainmoor looked very heavy as the game got underway. Ben Tozer's long throw caused some problems for the Torquay defence early on as the Cobblers started the brighter of the two sides.

Kevin Nicholson fired in a shot from distance on 21 minutes but his effort was straight at Lee Nicholls. Ryan Jarvis went close to breaking the deadlock on the half hour mark but his header from a corner was well cleared by Clarke Carlisle.

Carlisle did very well again on 39 minutes to block a goal-bound shot from Gulls midfielder Lee Mansell. Ben Harding tried a neat chip on 43 minutes which Michael Poke just about managed to tip over. Chris Hackett then saw a shot saved as the Cobblers ended the first half on the front foot.

Torquay changed their kit for the second half, going from yellow to navy blue. The Cobblers started the second 45 in the same way that they finished the first, Akinfenwa firing over from close range after Harding flicked on a Tozer throw.

Torquay took the lead just after the hour mark, Ryan Jarvis converting from close range following a Danny Stevens left-wing cross.

Jake Robinson replaced Lewis Hornby in the Cobblers first change. Following a flurry of corners around the 75-minute mark Kelvin Langmead turned in the area but couldn't quite find the target.

Langmead did however earn a point for the Cobblers in injury time, firing in off the post in a scranble from a corner following a sustained spell of pressure.
